Sue
Ann (黃素安) was the first Asian born in Dawson Creek, British
Columbia, Canada to Lan and Tu Anh Hoang. She has two older adopted siblings,
Tan & Thao and a younger biological brother, Kevin. Her family moved down
to Vancouver, British Columbia about a year or two after her younger brother
was born.
Sue Ann is an avid
volunteer. She started volunteering while she was still in elementary school,
where her first volunteering opportunity was a Library monitor. Since that very
first time, she has jumped on many volunteer opportunities around the community.
Sue Ann spent 10
years in the Lions Club International (LCI). During that time, she volunteered
for many community events, such as CNIB, Easter Seal, and BC Children's
Hospital. She also held an executive positions with LCI every year, on numerous committees and was
one of the founding members for each of the 3 clubs she was in. Her proudest
accomplishment was while she was the District 19A Leo Liasion, where there was
a huge drive to grow and expand of the youth division of LCI, the Leos, up the
coast of British Columbia and down the coast across the border into Washington
State.
She has continued
volunteering since her retirement from LCI. She volunteered at her work places
for community charities, such as United Way, Birdies for Babies, Salvation Army
Adopt-a-Family, Juniors Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF). She volunteered at
sports events such as the Molson Indy, FIFA U-20 in 2007, Canada Snowboard
National Cup in 2008, FIS World Cup 2009, Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympics at
Cypress Mountain and at the Coca-Cola Happiness House at LiveCity Yaletown for
the Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympics !
Sue Ann loves
sports. She enjoys playing ice hockey, roller hockey, volleyball, tennis,
swimming, skiing and snowboarding.
Hockey takes a very
prominent role in Sue Ann's life. She has been involved with over 30 hockey
teams as GM, Captain and Alternative Captain since 2005. She has won 3 roller
hockey championships: one with Bling Blings roller hockey team in the Pacific
Inline Championship Hockey (PICH) league; one with Blings roller hockey team in
the Vancouver Inline Hockey League (VIHL); and one Four Play roller hockey team
in VIHL. She's also won a ice hockey championship with Chicks & Sticks
spring ice hockey team in Ice604.She retired from roller hockey after the
summer of 2012.
Sue Ann is the proud Season Ticket Holder for the Vancouver Canucks since 2004 and her favourite hockey
player is Trevor Linden. She was sooo happy to hear Trevor Linden was named
President of Hockey Operations of the Vancouver Canucks in 2014!
Sue Ann received her
Bachelor of Arts at the University of British Columbia (UBC). Since graduation,
